The Admiral and Vice-Admiral delegated their jurisdiction to the Judge of the High Court of Admiralty and other deputes.
Until 1825 the Court of Admiralty also had customary jurisdiction over mercantile affairs.
The Court was abolished in 1830, and its jurisdiction was transferred to the Court of Session (civil), the Court of Justiciary (criminal), and the Sheriff Court (civil and criminal).
