Married Lady Jane Douglas in 1746. Jacobite sympathizer and veteran of the Swedish army. He had two sons: Sholto, who died, and Archibald, who became Archibald Douglas of Douglas. In 1759 he succeeded his brother George as Baronet of Grandtully.
